A new cat had arrived, an orange and white feline that appeared to be starving. Despite being cautious around humans, his growling stomach kept leading him back to Clare’s house. Whenever Clare attempted to approach him, he would quickly back away, making sure to keep a safe distance.
Unfazed by his cautious nature, she made consistent efforts to earn his confidence.
“He may have enjoyed the food I provided, but he remained remote. Understanding that he required time to establish trust, I allowed him to dictate the timing,” Clare disclosed to We Love Cats and Kittens.
She decided to call the cat Phoebe, thinking it was a female, and the name stuck even after realizing the mistake in gender identification.
Over time, Phoebe began to feel increasingly comfortable in Clare’s presence. His growing self-assurance was noticeable as the distance between them shrank little by little.
“I could sense his curiosity towards me, but he was hesitant to allow me to show him affection,” Clare remembered.
Clare’s persistence was finally rewarded when Phoebe started to warm up to her. With continued feeding, he eventually allowed her to gently pet him, although he remained cautious and mostly only when he was preoccupied with his meal.
One day, Clare was startled by the loud meowing outside her door. When she looked outside, she spotted Phoebe eagerly greeting her through the window, clearly excited to see her. Phoebe’s enthusiasm only grew as he started climbing up the window screens, all in an attempt to grab Clare’s attention.
Following two years of developing a strong bond, Phoebe made the courageous decision to transition into an indoor cat, influenced by his deepening affection for Clare’s cat, Archer. With the support of Saving Stevie, Clare set up a cozy and peaceful space for Phoebe to adjust to his new life indoors.
After checking out his new environment and claiming his space, Phoebe strolled over to Clare, letting out a loud purr-meow to get her attention and ask for some love.

“In just a mere two weeks, Phoebe went from being reserved for two years to transforming into a cuddly and affectionate companion!”
Clare described him as the most affectionate and clingy cat she has ever owned. She mentioned that he loves to be close to her all the time, whether by sitting on her lap, staring at her lovingly, or gently nuzzling her head. Since she works from home, these little moments of companionship make her day brighter.
Phoebe’s schedule quickly became full of snuggles and fun adventures. He enjoyed lounging on Clare’s chest, relishing in the love and attention she gave him. Every so often, his playful nature would emerge, leading him to chase after a ball or play with a toy in a joyous manner.
