Beagles rescued from breeding facility delight seniors during nursing home visit.
Numerous animal enthusiasts have been keeping up with the saga of the “Envigo beagles,” a group of 4,000 beagles that were specifically bred for medical experiments and were subjected to harsh living conditions until a court ruled for their liberation back in July. Since then, these beagles have been gradually moving to various animal shelters across the nation, where they are being showered with affection and receiving essential medical care. Some fortunate beagles have even been adopted into loving forever families already.
From Homeward Trails Animal Rescue comes a heartwarming tale that has captured the attention of people everywhere. Recently, a group of rescued beagles brought joy to a nursing home as they made a special visit to the residents. In a heartwarming twist, 7News reports that their foster dad, meteorologist Bill Kelly, has been caring for some of these lovable pooches in his own home.
Recently, a group of beagles had the chance to go on an exciting adventure outside of their home and spend time with elderly individuals who would benefit from their company. Volunteers from Homeward Trails, a local rescue organization, picked up the beagles and took them to ProMedica Skilled Nursing. The staff at the senior facility had heard about the dogs and believed it would be a wonderful idea to have them visit their residents.
Cindy Oplinger, a representative from the nursing home, shared with 7News, “We are always trying to find activities to keep our residents engaged, and I thought nothing could bring more joy than having some playful puppies pay us a visit.”
The elderly residents adored the lovable beagles. They enjoyed cuddling with the cute rescue dogs, expressing how affectionate and comfortable they were in their arms. Fostering dogs not only offers companionship but also helps them become more socialized, preparing them for their permanent loving homes.
Furthermore, a cheery visit from a charming furry friend can bring immense happiness to an elderly individual. Thus, the visit from the beagles turned out to be a mutually beneficial experience for both the dogs and the seniors.
“It was a hit with the residents and the staff. It’s a win-win situation for everyone,” Oplinger commented. “The whole purpose of having the puppies visit was to spread joy, and we are thrilled with how it turned out.”
