“He is such a cheerful fellow”

Upon seeing a picture of Pinocchio for the first time, Jacqueline Santiago noticed a distinct charm about him. With his slender frame, big blue eyes, and a snaggletooth, she couldn’t fully grasp how unique he was until their first meeting.

Santiago, the proud owner of Friends for Life Rescue Network, shared with The Dodo the heartwarming story of Pinocchio, a pup with a unique appearance. Born with a cranial abnormality, Pinocchio’s face has a twisted look that captured Santiago’s heart. Despite his misaligned jaw that limits him to eating wet food, he also had a large umbilical hernia that required surgery. Thankfully, the rescue has a vet on staff who specializes in special needs cases, ensuring that Pinocchio receives the care and love he deserves.

Friends for Life Rescue Network shared a heartwarming story about Santiago’s encounter with a 4-month-old kitten who didn’t seem to realize he was any different from other cats. Santiago was charmed by the kitten’s sweet nature and immediate purring during their first interactions.

Pinocchio is a social butterfly, making friends with both humans and animals alike in no time. Santiago observed that Pinocchio is not one to be shy; instead, he exudes confidence and eagerly welcomes anyone he meets.
“He’s very outgoing, always running up to greet newcomers and perching on their shoulder,” Santiago explained. “He enjoys rubbing against you, playing around, and bouncing with joy. He’s a cheerful little guy who adores everyone – whether they be humans, cats, or dogs.”

During his stay at a foster home, Pinocchio faced some health challenges that required surgeries to address his umbilical hernia and sternum placement. The medical team adored him so much that they fashioned a special Superman wrap to safeguard his stitches. During his follow-up visit, they even accessorized it with a tiny red cape for a coordinated look.

Pinocchio is making good progress in his recovery, but because of his ongoing medical care, it is unlikely that he will be ready for adoption until he is older. Santiago explained, “While he is receiving treatment, we are not considering any adoption applications or inquiries as we are still learning about what his future needs may be. We understand his current needs, but as he matures, these could evolve as well.”

The Friends for Life Rescue Network is looking for a loving family to adopt Pinocchio once he is ready. Despite his crooked face, this kitten never stops smiling, showing off his unique lopsided grin that makes him truly one of a kind.
