A petite pup in a tight spot: Tiny Beagle seeks refuge at animal shelter after doggy door dilemma.
Upon his arrival at the animal shelter, Wolfgang the Beagle was significantly overweight, weighing close to 90 pounds, well above the average weight for a Beagle. Understandably concerned about his health and well-being, Erin McManis and Chad Schatz, who had recently relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, decided to step in and rescue Wolfgang through their involvement with the Arizona Beagle Rescue organization.
When the couple laid eyes on Wolfgang, they knew they had stumbled upon their perfect match, the one they couldn’t resist. “He was like a mystical being, unlike anything we had ever seen before, and we just find him to be incredibly special,” McManis gushed.
Obese beagle on Instagram shared that they took a gradual approach to reducing their dog’s calorie intake to about 600 calories per day while incorporating daily walks. Wolfgang, the dog, has a positive attitude and is not a picky eater. He is motivated and dedicated to following the plan set by his owners. Wolfgang even has his own Instagram page where followers can join him on his weight loss journey.
“We always aim to keep moving forward, but it’s important to remember that extreme obesity in dogs like Wolfgang or Jameson is a type of animal cruelty – the strain it puts on their hearts and the pain they endure from carrying around that extra weight,” expressed McManis.
Watch Wolfgang in action shortly after being rescued in the video below. Well done on all your efforts, sweetheart!
